Marlena began her career in Callisburg coaching 7th grade volleyball, basketball, and track. Marlena is happily married to her husband Chris and together they have three children (Jacob 20) (Riley 18) & ( Karis 12). They have two sons, Coleton, who plays basketball at Army West Point and Tyton, a Senior at Austin Bowie.Ĭoach Marlena Brown is a graduate of Tarleton State University and is in her 15th year as head coach at Jarrell High School and her 21st year of coaching. Vickie also piloted a program for TABC to offer professional development for member coaches through Virtual Mini Clinics (VMC’s) Vickie is married to Kacy Benson, the campus pastor at Bannockburn South in Austin. Vickie has served on the TABC board of directors for 3 years and has been a District Rep, Regional Coordinator and Assistant Regional Coordinator for TABC. She began her coaching and teaching career at McNeil High School in Round Rock ISD in 1999. Prior to Bowie, Benson coached basketball, track and volleyball at Hyde Park Baptist Schools in Austin, where she also served as the girls’ athletic director. It has grown to 32 teams and is noted as “the kickoff” to girls’ basketball in Texas. There is a mental health component and opening ceremony that is second to none. Vickie launched the BeYOUtiful Classic in 2013 as an opportunity to offer more at a tournament than just basketball games. She marks more than 400 career victories and earned Coach of the Year honors from the Austin American-Statesman in 2014. She led the Bulldogs to five consecutive basketball district championships and advanced to the 6A state playoffs 10 consecutive years. Vickie served at the helm of the Bowie High School girls basketball program in Austin ISD where she spent 12 years as head basketball coach and classroom teacher. Vickie Benson is currently the Head Girls Basketball coach at Westlake High School in Austin, Tx.
